Kauri Nest opened in April 2011.

This beautiful early 1900's Historic Homestead has a 100 year history set in half acre of grounds, glorious mix of native bush and 80 yr old Kauri next to house.
Kauri Nest was owned by well known History writer Florence Keene from 1949 to 2000, who wrote 36 History books in the house.
You will be surprised with the feeling of being in a lovely spacious villa in the countryside; yet you can walk 10 minutes along & over the Hatea River past the marina to the town basin with its 5 cafes, art galleries, clock museum, park and shops, Hundertwasser Art Building; from there only 3-5 minutes to CBD and shopping centres, movie theatre complex, banks . P O. etc .
Kauri Nest is on the road to Whangarei airport (7 min drive), Whangarei Heads, Ocean Beach, Parua Bay, golf course, Abby caves, A H REED forest park and Whangarei waterfall, plus many other attractions only minutes away.
Here you enjoy amazing views over the Hatea River, Yachts nearby, the Western Hills, Town Basin and beyond. theres a little park and cafe over the road.
The lounge is enhanced by the period fireplace, polished hard wood flooring, 11 foot stud, feature ceiling and very large view filled original windows.

Riverview Room, ensuite, has a lovely view over the Hatea river.
The Kauri Cabin is for up to 2 people, it looks like a small miners cottage, with the 80 year old Kauri tree right outside, native NZ birds are plenty at Kauri Nest.
Wood Pigeons, Tui, Fantail, Kingfishers
The Tree cabin sits up behind the main house, sleeps 1-2 , has its own verandah it has a view to the river and 2-300 yr old Totara trees.
If you are into the Arts , the main house is now an Art Gallery called Art on Riverside (open 11am - 6pm) showing available to guests out of hours.
